I moved here because of 4 friends. I visited here and it was love at first sight. There is so much about this community that is amazing. I know more people and have more friends than ever in my life. What is even more amazing are the people I have met that lived close to me when growing up or knew a relative.
I got involved right away. There is do much to do here. I don’t even need to leave the community. I live on a block where everyone is my family. The ladies go out to lunch and so do the guys every month. We all go out to dinner once a month. Never have to worry about the holidays because someone is usually having a party where we all contribute. I am so blessed to live here.

As an Ambassador the number one question I am asked is about amenities, not finances although I always mention finances and give them a written summary.  Eyes light up when I show them the Artisan Center and they are interested when I tell them we are working on space constraints.  They always mention how well kept everything is........kudos to the maintenance people and the homeowners.

I had ankle replacement surgery on June 4th.  I secured items from the Loan Room a week before my surgery:

Wheel chair,  scooter, walker, shower bench, toilet riser with handles, bedside toilet with handles and crutches.

Thanks to the SCOV loan room I had props to help me navigate weeks of non-weight bearing activities on one foot.  This was not easy.  I checked the cost of these items on Amazon, $510.00.  It cost me nothing by using one of our own amenities, the Loan Room.  Thank you to all who take off these items and the people who volunteer to man the services.

We were ready to retire from our main professions when we moved here.  We loved the active lifestyle and all the things to do here - Golf, GYM, the Swimming Pools. Art Classes, Clubs and Committees.

We wound up working as Tour Boat Captains in our National Parks; we both had Coast Guard Masters licenses which were required.  We had spent two years at sea on our own 40 ft sailboat - giving us the "at sea hours" to qualify for the Coast Guard classes and tests.

We bought an RV for living in the parks in the summer but kept our house here for our return in the fall and winter.  We then joined the RV Club - the Sundowners.

We have now lived here for 30 years and do not want to leave!  It's fun, entertaining, educational and we have treasured friends.

In 1992, my husband Gary and I were looking to leave Northern California and visited Las Vegas. While he looked at job possibilities, I toured the new Sun City. The models were nice; however, there was grass in the front yards and they were watering, with overflow running down the streets. We were experiencing a six-year drought in Northern California, saving our bath water for houseplants. The salesman could see I was not interested and asked if we had been to the Tucson Del Web community, which turned out to be in Oro Valley. While we regularly visited Tucson, we always stayed on the east-side and  never heard of Oro Valley. We drove straight down, staying in the Vacation Villas on Green Tree Dr. We walked across the street to the models and after viewing them and the neighborhoods, bought the Sabino model and what we thought would be a good lot. Six months later, we moved in as full-time residents on Royal Ridge Dr.

Immediately, we found our neighbors were very friendly and they invited us to their homes for evening parties almost every day. Gary went to work part time and I settled into golf and retirement activities. There were some volunteer activities that appealed to us right away: Posse Duty, Vistoso Helpful Hands, Dance Clubs & Pilates. I utilized the deep end of the pool to give my back relief from golf and visited the Sports Center (now the modernized Fitness Center.)

Gary passed away 2001. I never considered leaving SCOV, which now provides me an even more active lifestyle. When the Golfers Grill was remodeled into The Views Restaurant, I agreed to chair the Food and Beverage Committee for several years.  I still enjoy meals and meeting new folks at TVR. I volunteer to give Ambassador Tours once a week, am a Posse Squad leader, Chair Vistoso Helpful Hands and belong to the Garden Club. I attend all HOA BOD meetings via Zoom and share important information with my SCOV friends. Welcoming new residents and helping folks are my greatest pleasures. I also have a regular Friday evening Happy Hours in my backyard to stay in close touch with my immediate neighbors.

Thirty-three years later, I have never regretted the move to SCOV, as the lifestyle is a perfect match for me.

I worked as a Nurse anesthetist (CRNA) for 40 years, the last few in South Dakota. My wife and I started looking for a good place to spend the winter. A fellow South Dakotan that I mountain bike with invited us to visit their winter home at Sun City Oro Valley in 2014. We were sold very quickly. People are so friendly here. We have met so many new friends. Mountain bike trails are one block out our front door. I checked out the pop tennis club and was impressed with how friendly they all were. They are all good friends now. My wife enjoys hiking, and loves the art room at Catalina Vista. It is impressive that people are so friendly and will walk right up to you and ask where you are from. We hope to stay here and stay active for many years to come.

I have lived in Sun City for four years and love it. I find it more appealing and enticing every day. There is an old saying that states, "You find what you look for", and I choose to look for the good, the beauty, and the harmony in this special community. I have found them in abundance here. I think Goldilocks would find SCOV "just right", after she ruled out what was too hard or too soft.

I absolutely love Sun City, Oro Valley. I appreciate all the social events and the plethora of clubs that bring people together in the community. Pretty much everyone walks around here with a smile on their face. The location is great, and we have wonderful police and fire departments close by.

My husband and I spent five years traveling around the US looking for the best retirement community for us.  After visiting SCOV we were sold! From the Vistoso Cycling club,  mountain biking trails out our back door,  Glass and Clay clubs as well as an awesome wood shop we could not be happier. Everyone we have met has been so friendly and welcoming.

While my husband and I were living on the East Coast, we created a list of what we wanted in retirement. We were looking for opportunities to connect with people, the ability to pursue old and new interests, outdoor activities, lifelong learning, some “foodie” experiences, and a spiritual home. Our own religion is a small denomination, so that availability was critical to us. We knew an Arizona snowbird, Barbara Gates, who tempted us to rent in SCOV . Once here, it took all of six weeks to find ourselves as new homeowners. Why here? Well, we reviewed our list of “Must haves” and found Sun City and Tucson met all our needs and wants and a very special one -- the wood workshop of my husband’s dreams. We are grateful and thankful for this rich life available to us in Sun City Oro Valley, and we are mindful of our responsibility to maintain its many wonderful aspects as we’ve branched into greater community roles.
